What Are The Benefits Of Hormone Replacement Therapy?

A personalized bioidentical hormone replacement therapy treatment plan can provide both women and men a dramatic boost in overall quality of life with benefits that include:

  • Raising energy levels
  • Improving sexual function and enjoyment
  • Boosting libido and sex drive
  • Increasing fat burning and weight loss
  • Helping to rebuild muscle mass
  • Diminishing symptoms of menopause
  • Enhancing mood, concentration, and focus
  • Improving skin health and appearance
  • Reducing or stopping hair loss

Menopause for Women

Symptoms of menopause (like intermittent hot flashes, irregular periods, mood changes, vaginal dryness, and sleep issues) may begin for women around middle age. These symptoms can present themselves in varying degrees because of hormonal shifts in estrogen (and other hormones) that lead to menopause (or the eventual last menstrual period). During menopause, certain changes in the body may occur, including:

  • Depression
  • Lack of energy
  • Irregular periods
  • Mood swings
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Hair loss
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Painful intercourse
  • Hot flashes or night sweats
  • Inability to concentrate or "brain fog"
  • Loss of bone density (osteoporosis)

Fortunately, these symptoms can be treated by replacing diminishing hormones, which we can do at Dallas Cosmetic Center with bioidentical hormone replacement pellets.

Andropause for men

Beginning in the mid-30s, hormone levels (like testosterone) will naturally decline. This process is called andropause, low testosterone, or low T for men and can result in:

  • Low sex drive
  • Poor sexual performance
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Lack of concentration
  • Low energy
  • Hair loss
  • Weight gain
  • Decreased muscle mass
  • Loss of bone density (osteoporosis)

Andropause can be treated by replacing dwindling hormones. Hormonal treatments for men can be expensive, require daily consumption, and in many cases, need to be carefully timed with their partner’s needs for normal sexual activities and pleasure. Controlled clinical trials have consistently reported the beneficial effects of testosterone replacement therapy.

What to Expect During Hormone Replacement Therapy

Dr. Huertas can insert your customized hormone replacement dosage via pellet right here in our Dallas, TX office. Using a local anesthetic, Dr. Huertas will inject the pellets underneath the skin on one of your upper buttocks. Every 4 – 6 months, you'll need to come back to our office to have new pellets inserted for continuous coverage. Blood hormone tests will be required consistently to make sure your hormones are balanced with the right dosage.

What is Recovery like After Hormone Replacement Therapy?

Following hormone replacement therapy, it could take a few weeks for you to notice the full effects of your treatment. Once these effects start to take place, you can expect to have an alleviation of your previous symptoms that lasts for 4 – 6 months until a new pellet needs to be inserted. While minor side effects can be normal, feel free to contact our Dallas, TX facility if you have any concerns after your treatment.

Hormone Replacement Therapy FAQ

Is hormone replacement therapy safe?

Yes, hormone replacement therapy can be safe and effective for the majority of eligible patients. During your consultation with Dr. Huertas, he will go over your medical history and current condition to ensure you are a candidate for hormone replacement therapy. Some people with a history of blood clots, stroke, DVT (deep vein thrombosis), or certain cancers may not be a candidate for hormone replacement therapy.

Can hormone replacement therapy help me lose weight?

Yes, many patients see an improvement in the ability to burn fat and lose weight with hormone replacement therapy, especially around the belly area. Some studies have recorded losses of three pounds and a point lower on the BMI (body mass index) for patients using hormone replacement therapy.

Does hormone replacement therapy make you look younger?

When your hormones are optimized with hormone replacement therapy, it can help improve the health and appearance of the skin, achieving a more youthful look. Often this is a result of increased production of collagen and elastin in the skin, which can help to improve wrinkles, lines, and other signs of aging.

How quickly do you see results with hormone replacement therapy?

Results are typically seen within 2 – 3 weeks for most patients. These results usually continue to improve until optimal effects are reached around 3 – 4 months.

Does hormone replacement therapy have any side effects?

As their bodies adjust to the hormone therapy, some patients may experience minor side effects that can include acne, headaches, fatigue, mood swings, irritability, increased hair growth, and weight gain. These are usually resolved as your body acclimates and can be minimized by adjusting treatment dosages.

Replenish Your Body with HRT

Dr. Huertas may prescribe hormone pills, patches, creams, or suppositories, depending on your tolerance to HRT and the decline of your natural hormone levels. His preferred method of treatment is with pellet therapy, which you can replenish at our Dallas, TX office every 4 – 6 months. We can help you manage your hormones during your menopause or andropause transition. Call and schedule an appointment with our Dallas Cosmetic Center team today.
